Hey everyone, I for some reason have had a sudden interest in the Mccaw Parrot. Apart from them being horribly expensive I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about them? Their temperment, if they make good pets etc.

I study many animals especially parrots, dragons, snakes, turtles, amphibians and recently trying to discover crickets! Macaws are one of my fave parrots but i don't know much about them. If you like Macaws can be my next project! Do ya want me to have a go? i love studying animals anyway.

Just a word of caution think really hard before you get a bird. They are demanding and messy. I have a goffins cockatoo she is a good bird but needs a lot of attention. Bird need toys to chew, they also like cell phones, home phones, remote controls and wood furniture. Cockatoos are needy birds mine is the smallest of the cockatoo family and the least needy, but she is spoiled. Right now she is in the kitchen eating noodles out of my pot. Macaws are big birds with a big beak, I would try to find someone with one and talk to them. Good luck I attached a picture of our Mikey

hey thanks! so cute!! I wont be getting one for a while. My boyfriend and I are just goign through the stage of all the pets we want to get...if we got allof them i swear it would be a zoo..i dont know how soem of the people on the forum do it with so many animals! But anyway, thank you for the heads up. I definitely will not be getting one anytime soon so i have years to be reading up on them and seeing if I want to get one. I was thinking of the american grey if I were to get one might be the best bet. But I donno yet

i have had a macaw in the past and honestly...hes wat led me to my fear of birds...parrots especially...for whatever reason my macaw hated me and one time i went to feed him and change his water and he almost ripped my thumb off...i still have a little scar from it...every macaw i have had to deal with since has also been not so nice...theres other beautiful parrots out there that arent nearly as big or nasty...possibly a lori?
