Do any of you all live where it is cold?  I live in the midwest in the US. very, very cold, highest temp this time of year is 30, night lows at 0.  I keep the house way warmer than I like it for Nod to keep the ambient temp in his tank consistent...Any cold-weather beardie lovers out there?

During the day if you keep his basking and cool side the proper temp, that should keep your BD warm enough without your heating bill going up.  At night if your home gets below 60 degrees then you can buy a side heater that will stick to their  home.  Put it on the outside by were your baby sleeps and that should keep your BD warm enough.  They need to have a cool down at night.  If you prefer or have a wooden habitat there is a bulb you can buy that does not give off any light.  I am not sure of the name but just let us know if that is the type you need or want and some one will give you the name.  I am pretty sure on your other thread that Crystal gave you all the temp and husbandry info.

I believe I am doing well for a new dragon owner: Nod recognizes my movements and voice-my handling when I bathe him, my cuddling--I just want to do the very best I can..I  used to keep MY ambient temp (in my home)  at 65 F MAX, so I have not a clear perspective when it comes to desert...  I want to make sure I keep his temp variation right for  his age vs tank size...  Bigger tank and lighting /heating concerns are the issue .thanks

For my large enclosures, or for very cold spells, I provide the basking surface temp at 110* or higher using household flood bulbs. Then I add a low wattage bulb - usually 40 watts for my home - on the cool end of the enclosure, but aimed more towards the middle. This helps to give the temps a little extra boost but they still have the cooler area to go to when they need it.
For night heat just mount that uth that you mentioned to the back wall of the enclosure. If you position it about halfway down the back, in the middle, it should also help to provide a good ambient temp if you need that boost in the daytime. Make sure it's on the outside of the glass for best heat and safety.

Thanks very much---I appreciate your advice. I hate the cold here--I need to make sure it is OK for Nod.

I live in Utah and haven't noticed any problems in my beardie's tank. I keep my house at 72 and haven't noticed her temperatures changing
