I'd like to get one of these. They are $40 at petsmart and petco, but I don't really feel like they are actually worth that.

Can anyone attest to their $40 value? Anyone using one they bought offline?

I just need 2 plugs. Also, what happens if you plug a strip or one of those 1-to-3 plugs into a single plug?

some of those single plug ones are really cheap and small, but I would have to plug one of those 1-to-3 plugs into it.

I just find it silly to pay $40 for a timer and a plug.

I use the $15 digital timers from Walmart. They only have one plug but they support a power bar just fine and they're accurate. I've used the same ones for over 3 years now and they're still bringing the lights on and off on time, every day.

i have found the same timer that they sell at my local petco for half the price at petmountain.com. Check it out there first to see if it can save you a couple of bucks.

The ones from the petstore is like double the price and has the same function as the ones from eg. Walmart that's half the price. I got mine from Canadian Tires which is a hardware store in Canada. It looks like a power bar that has eight plugs on it (2 row with 4 plugs each) and each roll has its own timer. So I have 2 separate timer function on the same bar which I use for 2 separate tanks since my lizards have different lighting schedules. It also has this digital analog that shows the time on it. I bought mine for under $20 CAD.

I used the cheapest 3 prong timer from Home depot, and its perfectly fine. I plug a power strip into it, and it supports two vivs without worry, and is actually very accurate for how much it costs.

My total draw through the timer is about 350w, and its handled it fine for over a year. I tried a digital one, but when you have to climb under a viv in the dark to set the timer, its really easy just to have the little plastic nubs. I am sure I could just unplug the timer, but when I am on my back looking at it, its much easier to just adjust it right there. I only do it a couple times a year with the seasons, so I guess its not that big of a concern.
