Hi,

Now there's food for thought.  Newspaper could be good, although he would get filthy with the printing ink from it.  It is still worth considering.

Please, watch using newspaper.  When had a dragon accidently taste the newspaper and was siezing that night.  I do not suggest using newspaper but papertowels.  With not print or pattern on it.  also the reptisun bulb.  Is a coiled bulb or the long bulb.  If it is compact, it can cause blindness in dragons.  It is not suggested to use that either.  Do you have any pics of the dragon recently that we could look at?  does the dragon have and kinks in the tail?

Hi,

The Repti-Glo 10.0 is a coiled bulb.  It's the first time I've ever used one of these.  I usually use the Arcadia D3 bulb as stated in a previous message.  I agree that the tube is the best one to use, but I can't have one fitted in his present vivarium.  I can only use the bulb type.  But on a brighter note, I have seen a new vivarium that I want for him.  And, with this new one, I will be able to have a uvb tube fitted.  So that should be good.  I can assure you though, Thor's eyesight has not been affected through using the bulb.

Sorry to hear that your Beardie suffered through using newspaper.  I guess I won't consider using it after all.

Yesterday I got rid of all Thor's substrate, and have put in plain white paper towels for now.

Yes, I do have a couple of recent pics of him.  They show how poorly he looks and is.  The pics were taken a few days ago.

One pic is attached to this message.  I will post the other one shortly

He looks healthy.  A very BIG cute boy.  The vet that you took him to, are they a reptile vet?  You might have answered that before and sorry if you did.  If this is a new vet for you, I might be calling some local pet stores that sell dragons and ask if they have references for vets.  In the mean time, I call the vet again and telling them about the possible side effects that are now happening.  I have had one dragon that had bowel problems and they told me, when I gave her the meds that if I saw problems with twitching, problems walking, to stop the meds and call them.   I honestly don't know if that is what is going on but would check into it.  here is a website that I have found interesting and has a lot of info in it.  http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/home.html .   I hope he gets to feeling better soon.  Keep us up to date on how he is.

Hi,

yes, she is a reptile vet.

This is the first time I have had to take him to a vet.

And, with what's been happening to him since he's been on the meds, I contacted her yesterday to tell her, and find out if it's a reaction to them or not.

She was very confident that it wasn't the meds at all, and to keep giving them to him.  She's booked him in for Tuesday morning to do blood work and x-rays.

Still not happy about the meds,  I contacted another reptile vet over in North Yorkshire (Leeds), for a second opinion.  I explained to him what was happening and what meds he's been having.  He told me the very same thing.

Well, with all the upset and the phonecalls and cleaning out his substrate and everything else, he didn't have the antibiotic yesterday.  Today, he was walking quite normal and running about quite normal.  So I'm puzzled Huh

Anyway, today as instructed, I've given him all his meds.  But if he can't walk tomorrow, I won't give them him again, because it will be obvious that it's an allergic reaction.  We shall see!

I will have a look at the Beautiful Dragons website a.s.a.p.  (thank you for that)

I will keep you up to date on his condition.

Hey. Ok I was at the pet store and I picked up a light fixture with a dimer switch on it and I asked the guys why they highly recomend that and they say its to

1 - Help controll the heat a little easer
2 - Lets you control the basking area
3 - if you use it to keep your tank warm at night it helps you to do that

And so far its been alot easer to controll the temps in the tank. All in all I would highly recomend picking a light fixture with a dimmer switch.

Hi,

That does seem like a great idea.  That is something I shall definitely see about getting a.s.a.p.

I want to get him a completely new set up as well.  I've seen a lovely new vivarium that I want for him.  So I shall be able to get all the new type things and dimmer switch etc... fitted in it.

I've got to hold off for just a little while longer though, as he is stressed enough at the moment.  A new home might just stress him more.  Bless him, he really doesn't need more stress right now.

I've had to take him to the vet again this morning.  The meds haven't made him any better.  He still won't eat or drink anything.  His baths don't seem to have helped either.  He's still quite dehydrated.

Anyway, I've had to leave him with her (that was hard for me to do).  She's going to do blood work and x-ray.  She's going to call me to let me know when I can bring him home.

She has got me really worried though.  She says it is possible that his tail could come off after she's taken some blood from him.  I hope to god that that doesn't happen!!!  I can't imagine him without his tail.

Is that true!!!  Can that really happen!!!  Oh dear, I'm really worried!!!
