Hi Veggieburger  Smiley

Thankyou for saying that.  That really is a nice thing to say.  But, I'm not sure that Thor would agree with you though LOL!!!

Hi Mel  Smiley

Glad you found the thread helpful.   Smiley

Thor was doing much better, until I had to put him back on antibiotic.  He was eating very well.

He has cut down again somewhat, but at least he is still eating.  Thanks to the Nutribac!!!   Smiley

He's just finished his antibiotic now,  so hopefully he will start eating a lot more again.  I'm going to continue with the Nutribac for a couple of weeks again, so that his appetite picks up again.

I do hope the Nutribac works for your beardie.  I'm sure it will!!!   Smiley

Also, if he isn't hydrating very well, try bathing him in Lectade.  I used it for Thor, and it did help.

Keep us posted on his progress

Hi All,

Well, unfortunately, Thor isn't doing so well right now. Sad :'( :'(

I'm absolutely furious with the vets.  The swabs they took from his mouth to send off for culture, weren't even  sent.  Angry Angry Angry

When I rang them for the results of the swabs.  The receptionist told me that some of the results had come back, and that the vet needed to talk to me about them.  So she told me that the vet would ring me.  I never got the call.  When I rang them again to find out what was what, the vet told me how very sorry she was, but that something had happened to the swabs.

When I asked "like what for instance", she admitted that they hadn't been sent off and had been discarded by accident!!!!!! Angry

So, I was lied to!!!! Shocked Shocked

Anyway, today (Tuesday), I've had to take him back to the vets again for swabs to be taken again.  This time, they have assured me that they will be sent off straight away, but it will take ten days for the results if there are any.

This is really getting ridiculous now.  Thor has had this sore mouth now for three weeks as it is.  The Iodine solution has only made it worse instead of better.  Shocked Shocked

I'm at my wits end.  I've now spent on vet bills and treatments, over one thousand pounds.  And, to top it all, Thor is still in a mess.

The vet has said that if nothing shows up with the culture, the only thing left, is to put him under general anaesthetic and do a biopsy.

I'm not sure that he would be able to cope with that.  And, I don't think I'm going to be able to afford to pay for that.  I'm really all spent up now.

He's lost more weight.  He's down to 950g.   Sad

The vet wants me to give him yet another course of Baytril,  and put him back on Critical Care formula.

Oh, this is really not good!!! Sad

Hi All,

llynnuk - Thank you for your comments, they are greatly appreciated.  I'm glad you find this thread helpful for future reference.  I hope though that you, or anyone else never has to go through this with their beardies.  It has been horrendous!!!  Poor Thor has really been through it.

Veggieburger - Thank you from both Thor and myself.  And, I think your prayers have been answered!!!  Thor is starting to pick up again!!!  Thank goodness  Smiley Smiley

Now all, the results of the culture are in.  Apparently, the vet explained that the bite, with it being an open wound, the bacteria from his mouth got into it and caused a Staph Infection.

Putting him back on Baytril has obviously helped with this.  The swelling has gone down a lot, and the sore is now scabbing over.  So hopefully he will be ok now.

He's just finished his course on Baytril, so now with the help of the probiotic, he will start eating properly again instead of nibbling the odd locust etc....

Fingers crossed that nothing else happens, and that he will be his normal happy self very soon.  I don't think either of us could take much more!!!  It's so worrying and stressful!!!

 Smiley Hi all,

Thor is continuing to improve thank goodness!!!

His mouth is slowly but surely healing very nicely, and the swelling has completely gone.  His appetite is now starting to pick up again.

Hopefully, he will be back to his old self very soon.  I can't wait!!!

Hi lynnuk,

Thankyou for your comments.  They are greatly appreciated.

Hey, it won't take him long to get used to you.  Keep offering him a bit of salad leaf or squash from your hand.  Also, keep giving him a little stroke and a little tickle under his chin and talk to him.  I'm sure he'll love that.  It won't take him very long to become very playful and affectionate towards you.
