You can also mix certain items in with the starter mash such as parsley and cilantro which are somewhat natural preventatives for the things bugs tend to carry.

Hi Beardo

How long did it take to ex-plod?

I started with 100 Mixed between Nymphs and 4 adult pairs and It has been almost 2 months and I haven't seen any new ones yet. No that said, I think there are a couple females that may be carrying now as they look extra plump.

Thanks

Fliehigh

PS. I have been using the "Janie Roach " for the colony (The orange slices), cat food with Fish flakes and actually Bearded dragon ground together and also vegtible ends.

Sorry for the late reply Filehigh, school just started here I've been busy. My colony took quite a while to explode actually. I started with about 35 adults and a few hundred nyphs. I soon realised that there wasnt enough nymphs to feed my growing dragons so I stopped feeding off the colony. A month or two after I was down to 1 adult male for some reason, I had about 5 or so males die in the preceding week. I ended up buying 100 more adults and letting the colony sit for another month or two. Once summer arrived I had all the different sizes ready for feeding and was getting about 1 new adult per day. So I guess the answer to your question is months and months, but I should of bought the additional adults earlier and I could of had the same result in 2 months. I really did notice a growth increase when the heat hit though. Hopefully this winter won't slow it down too much. I feed them ground cat food and tropical fish flakes, water gel crystals for hydration.
