Question on a viv idea

For a top of the viv im going to mate i was thinking of making the entire top out of a mesh for ventaltion and for the lights to sit on top of. Is this a good enough ventalation as well as keeping enough heat inside the cage?

I wouldn't make the entire top from mesh wire... Yes lots of ventilation.. perhaps too much.. However, there isn't anything saying you can't have that mesh running along the whole front top, or back.. with the lights figured into the design.

I think what Janie means is yes you can.  Although it would be in your best interests to reduce the amount of screen in areas lights do not go in order to make the most of your heat sources.
